Usually (one or more of the four car barges may be out of operation at any time for any reason -- we never know) the car barges leave both Red Hook and Cruz Bay every half hour, starting at around 7:00 a.m. and ending around 6:30 or 7:00 p.m.
The fare is about $40-50 round-trip, including car and all passengers.
Show up at the dock, get in line, drive onto the barge, and pay (cash or local check only) while in passage.
