Chateau Margot Reviews

Description of Chateau Margot from St. John Villa Rental

Securely snuggled into the verdant green hillside of Bordeaux Mountain, Estate Chateau Margot is situated on Bordeaux's eastern slope, approximately 1,000 feet above sea level. Overlooking the quiet community of Coral Bay, the impressive 4 1/2 acre estate affords majestic views of St. John's East End as well as the British Virgin Islands of Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Norman and several smaller cays along the Sir Francis Drake Channel. This property is only 1½ miles from the turn off Centerline Road that leads straight down to the amazing Maho and Francis Beaches and only 3 miles from the center of Coral Bay. To reach the estate, travel 5 miles from downtown Cruz Bay, halfway through the Virgin Islands National Park, on cool tree-canopied Centerline Road. Only 3/10 of a mile after passing the historic Reef Bay Trail entrance, the road to the estate forks off just to the right of the famous Château Bordeaux restaurant complex. From there, a 1/2 mile paved drive curves around and down to the grand white gates of Chateau Margot.

"Great spot for Groups" We stayed with a group of 10 adults and really enjoyed the arrangements. The master bathroom is outrageous in size and amenities. The other bedrooms in the main house share a bath, which would probably not be a problem for teens, but would not be the best arrangement if you had all 6 rooms filled with couples. The trip down to the house is a little tricky, but there are many other villas with much more treacherous drives. We have made many visits to SJ, always renting villas and this one was very well received. We enjoy the Coral Bay area over the Cruz Bay spots, but this location makes both accessible, although both are a bit of a drive. the N. Shore beaches are pretty close, especially the less populated beaches like Francis Bay. The kitchen could have used some more equipment, we were constantly running out of glasses and there was a somewhat odd assortment of plates, pitchers etc. The ceramic stove top looks nifty, but is not useful - very hard to get the heat right and then a mess after the smallest of spills. The views are terrific and the pool deck got a lot of use. It looks like a iPod player has been added; that was sorely missed when we stayed and the video equipment was not operational, but we really didn't need it and did not mention this until checkout (as it really wasn't a problem). The management was great, with checkin and checkout very smooth - since our group consisted of veteran SJ travelers, we really didn't need much. The wireless router is housed in a room off the main house and its reach was a bit short - you needed to be sitting inside to get internet when it would have been nice to be able to sit at the pool deck and enjoy the sun and the views while trying to stay a little connected to the mainland. All in all, a place to recommend and a management experience that is sure to please.

Our recent trip to St John was our third visit but our first time to stay at Chateau Margot. We found it to be a wonderful facility, with plenty of privacy, a lot of room, well furnished and well maintained. It is high on the mountain so we had plenty of breezes and virtually no noise other than the birds. It is a big place with great amenities, loads of snorkel equipment, very nice deck, pool, grill and views. Access is a bit challenging but all driving on St John is pretty challenging. Great location for a large group with plenty of privacy for all with the separate buildings. Not far from Coral Bay which is as comfortable as it gets. Great villa in every way.

Oceana Reviews

Description of Oceana from St. John Villa Rental -- The interior is oriented around a great room with a dramatic cathedral ceiling framed in cumaru and manchichi, which are beautiful, sustainable tropical hardwoods. The result is natural elegance, a theme repeated throughout the structure, furnishings and surrounding spaces. The great room has cable TV, DVD and stereo. Sound feeds into the spa area, kitchen and decks off the great room and pool, each with individual volume controls. While OCEANA is surrounded with all the Caribbean delights St. John has to offer, it was purposely designed as a villa to be stayed in. The kitchen and great room will make for some truly memorable gatherings. With gourmet level appliances, meals can be prepared or catered to any level of sophistication.

Hi Lisa. So now that we are back in cold, snowy Boston... I wanted to shoot you a quick email to tell you how much we enjoyed Oceana. I don't think there was anything we could have wanted that had not already been thought of. As I'm sure you know, the house is amazing. Despite the very nice kitchen/living area, we hardly used it ~ we were outside on the terrace whenever possible. We even slept with the windows open the last three nights as the breeze and temps were so comfortable.
Working with you on the rental was a real pleasure ~ your prompt replies to emails and phone calls is very much appreciated and the sign of a professional.
We are already thinking ahead to 2012 and would be interested in renting Oceana again, possibly for 10 days this time.
We also plan to do a sailing/snorkeling trip next year ~ the one thing we seemed to run out of time for this year (another reason we would like to have 10 days!). Just as far as our experiences this year, our favorites for dinner were Waterfront Bistro, La Plancha del Mar and Sweet Plaintains (a new one for us this year). We also love Skinny Legs for lunch! We also liked Spyglass (great location) and Cactus on the Blue. We also love the beach bar at Caneel Bay for a drink and/or lunch. We did some hiking for the first time this year which was fun. We did the easy walk up to Peace Hill, and later in the week we hiked the Johnny Horn & Brown Bay trails to Brown Bay (NO ONE was there except us!).
Love St. John, loved the trip. Already had someone ask who we used for our rental so I passed along your website. Was truly a pleasure working with you.

Everything about this Villa is AMAZING!!! We had just as much fun spending time out on the patio, or in the pool, or exploring all the different plants on the grounds as we did exploring the rest of the island. The a/c in all the rooms was more than adequate. The driveway was more than large enough to fit both our rental vehicles, and to get them turned around. The views from the patio of the bay, and the sun setting over St. Thomas were absolutely gorgeous. Even with eleven of us the Villa didn't feel crowded, and none of us wanted to leave. When we decide to return to St. John we will definitely be staying at Oceana again. THANK YOU LISA!!

We came, we saw, and loved every minute of it! From Michigan with our families...this was an amazing gat away for us! Ristaba is such a comfortable and inviting launch pad for all the island activities..I can't say enough about Ristaba. It fit so well for our 2 families, is obviously well built and smartly appointed. We also love the location, sitting atop the island world. We hope to come back!

Fodor's Review:
Big families or couples who travel together will enjoy Ristaba's abundant space. The great room opens onto a spacious tiled veranda that overlooks the pool and the stellar sea views. The layout gives you lots of room for socializing. The house has four bedrooms in the main building, with two more in a separate cottage. Floors are ceramic tile, and the furniture is wood and wicker, perfect for relaxing. Although the house has plenty of places to catch some rays, it also comes with lots of shady spots, such as the wicker rockers on the porch. Pros: pleasant neighborhood, lots of space, great pool. Cons: ...need car to get around, no a/c in.. Living rooms.

What an unbelievable week! The house was spectacular and the grounds were manicured to perfection! We enjoyed many nights playing cards, making meals, swimming in the pool and enjoying your lovely island home! We would like to especially thank you for arranging our vehicle rental. The jeeps were perfect for St.John's "special" terrain and were fun to boot. It was a welcome change from the famously flat plains of Illinois / Wisconsin. We felt very well taken care of. Thanks for everything!

Villa St. John Reviews

Description of Villa St. John from St. John Villa Rental -- Come and enjoy this one of a kind, palatial, Mediterranean-style retreat, perched on a beautifully landscaped bluff overlooking a secluded bay on the island paradise of St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands. A dream come true, this stunning villa welcomes you with gentle tropical breezes, warm and delicious sunlight to bathe in, sweet floral scents of the tropics and the soothing music of waves caressing the white-sand beach below. A rare gem, Villa St. John is one of only a few beachfront villas on this exclusive eight mile stretch of utopia. The rare presence of beachfront villas on St. John is Villa St. John’s most precious quality—three-fifths of its breathtaking beauty is protected as part of Virgin Islands National Park. The island’s shoreline protects secluded bays of crystal blue-green waters pulsing with coral reef life, tropical forests, coconut palms and more than 800 botanical species.

Ah, where to begin. 8 years ago, Beth remarked to me that is was such a huge world and there was so much to see. We would never go back to the same place twice. Ha! Eight years later we still can’t wait for our 10 days at Villa St. John. It is the only vacation that either of us has taken that, despite the fact that you can snorkel every day, hike through National Parks, eat at fabulous restaurants, laze by the pool, lounge in the decadent hot tub, or simply do nothing, when you return, you are sooo relaxed, but ready to go back. The villa’s rooms and accommodations are luxurious, but still invite you to live in them. The bedrooms are huge, with private balconies and huge bathrooms with granite counters and walk-in closets. The kitchen is gorgeous, very well designed for both cooking and visiting with family and friends. The pool is large and quite warm. It was wonderful to sit on the private deck, or to walk down to the beach to look for shells. The sunsets are lovely! You meet new friends who quickly become old friends. You see new sights to titillate the senses. Paraphrasing the song by Tanya Tucker, "When I die, I may not get to heaven, but St. John is as close as I’ve been." Yeah, we’re going back again….and again….and again.
Beth Freeman and Dave Stanard

My husband and I have had opportunities to travel and stay at various resorts at various locations. By far one of our favorites was Villa St. John. The accommodations were five star, our bedroom suite was luxuriously furnished with a private balcony overlooking the crystal clear blue bay; gorgeous. The beautifully furnished kitchen was just the right size for us to dine in, utilizing the convenient grocery store near the villa, or at times we opted to enjoy the laid back and relaxed night life of St. John Island. During the day we snorkeled at the bay that we could see from our balcony which did not disappoint. We also took the time to explore other places on the Island which left a lifetime of good memories. When we were tired of the sea we spent time relaxing by the pool enjoying the beautifully landscaped grounds. Villa St. John had everything we needed plus more! Thank you!
